Protecting Your Identity

Protecting Your Identity
As a business owner, whether small independent sole proprietor or a major corporation, you have to be careful of protecting your business identity, your personal identity and the identity of your employees. Identity theft is the number one crime in America today and the number of crimes and charges filed continue to increase daily.

Identity Theft can affect your credit standing but also can claims benefits that rightfully belong to you. Thieves are using your social security number and personal information to file your tax return and have your tax refund sent to them. This action alone will take months to correct and for you to get the tax refund you are due.

Identity thieves are using the social security numbers of children to get loans and make credit purchases. This situation is usually only discovered when collection letters start to arrive at your home addressed to your underage children. Modern technology has opened holes for hackers and tech savvy thieves to use the computerized systems maintained by government bureaus and businesses to obtain all our personal information.

If you have not been a victim of identity theft, you probably have a friend or family member that has and the chances of falling prey to this type of trickery is becoming every increasing. I have been a victim in the past and did not know until I went to make a withdrawal at the bank only to hear to my unbelief that I did not have enough available funds. This happened right at a crucial time for me to pay for an event payment which did not make this any easier. The bank did there due diligent to verify that it was literally impossible for me to have made the purchases in a different state and it did not take long before my money was back in my account.

After that incident, I took out identity theft protection which gives me alerts immediately of suspicious activities and in the case of theft would help to restore all my personal information and credit standing which can take hundreds of hours. You should consider protecting your identity as well as your business, your family and offering identity theft protection as a benefit to your employees.
